On 23 January 2012, after 59 days alone, British physicist Felicity Aston became the first woman ever to ski across Antarctica alone and only the third person of any nationality to do it without kite assistance. The 1,744-kilometre traverse cost her 13 kilograms of body weight and one of her sleds.
