Between 2 July and 18 September 2017 a Scottish endurance cyclist rode a bicycle, alone, eastward around the planet, covering 18,000 miles in 78 days and 14 hours. He had set himself the deadline of 80 days, in deliberate homage to Jules Verne. He beat the previous world record by 44 days.
