In early 2011 a 32-year-old Iranian-British financial analyst rode a touring bicycle from Algiers to Khartoum across the breadth of the Sahara, breaking the world record for the fastest crossing of the desert by bicycle. He covered 1,732 miles in 13 days and 5 hours.
