The best places in Egypt are not interchangeable. Choose by the kind of trip you want, the transport that serves it and how much switching you are willing to tolerate.

Eight anchors worth building around
- Cairo & Giza: use it as first-trip anchor and connect it only to stops that make geographic sense.
- Luxor: use it as strong second base and connect it only to stops that make geographic sense.
- Aswan: use it as regional contrast and connect it only to stops that make geographic sense.
- Abu Simbel: use it as nature / culture leg and connect it only to stops that make geographic sense.
- Alexandria: use it as first-trip anchor and connect it only to stops that make geographic sense.
- Hurghada: use it as strong second base and connect it only to stops that make geographic sense.
- Sharm el-Sheikh: use it as regional contrast and connect it only to stops that make geographic sense.
- Dahab: use it as nature / culture leg and connect it only to stops that make geographic sense.

Match the place to the traveller
Archaeology, nile cruising, cities, red sea diving, resort stays, domestic flights, rail and guided road excursions. are the main planning systems. That means a famous stop can still be wrong for your route if it forces a long detour or adds another one-night stay.
Which places combine cleanly?
- 7 days: Cairo/Giza plus Luxor, or a focused Cairo–Luxor–Aswan Nile route
- 10 days: Complete the Nile spine and add one Red Sea base only with a clean flight/transfer
- 14 days: Add Alexandria or a distinct Red Sea/Sinai block without turning every day into an airport or coach transfer
When a headline destination is the wrong choice
Cairo–Luxor–Aswan is a coherent Nile spine; adding Red Sea or Sinai creates a second transport system. Heat changes the useful sightseeing day more than many itineraries acknowledge.
Use popularity as a warning, not a ranking
TripMag does not label one place objectively “best”. The better question is whether it improves the route. A stop that fits the transport spine and deserves two or three nights usually beats a more famous place added only for a photograph.
