Post-Olympics Paris has never looked better. The Seine has been newly polished; the Grand Palais reopened in time for the Games and is now stunning; and the city's luxury hotel scene saw extraordinary investment between 2022 and 2025. There has never been a better time to do Paris in style.

The Palace Hotels

France's official "Palace" designation goes to a tiny list. The current giants: Cheval Blanc Paris on the Right Bank by the Seine (LVMH's love letter to Paris); Le Bristol on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore; The Ritz Paris on Place Vendome; Plaza Athenee on Avenue Montaigne; Mandarin Oriental Paris; Le Meurice opposite the Tuileries; Hotel de Crillon on Place de la Concorde; and Four Seasons George V for the floral arrangements alone.

The Three-Star Tables

  • Guy Savoy - panoramic Seine view, technical mastery
  • Arpege - Alain Passard's vegetable-first temple
  • L'Ambroisie - the most classical of the three-stars on Place des Vosges
  • Plenitude at Cheval Blanc - newest three-star, contemporary
  • Epicure at Le Bristol - Eric Frechon's quietly perfect garden room

Book all of these 30-60 days ahead. Book Paris fine-dining reservations and skip-the-line passes.

Cocktail Bars Worth Sitting At

Paris's cocktail scene has caught up with London and New York. Little Red Door (consistent World's 50 Best), Le Syndicat, Cravan, Bar 228 at Le Meurice, Hemingway Bar at the Ritz, and the new Le Tout-Paris at Cheval Blanc with the panoramic Seine terrace.

Museums Beyond the Louvre

  • Musee d'Orsay - book the 9:30 am opening; impressionism collection is unmatched
  • Fondation Louis Vuitton - Frank Gehry building alone justifies the metro ride
  • Musee Rodin - the garden is one of Paris's most underrated quiet spaces
  • Musee de l'Orangerie - Monet's Water Lilies in their custom-built room
  • Bourse de Commerce - the Pinault Collection in Tadao Ando-renovated rotunda

Shopping the Right Way

The classic luxury circuit runs from Place Vendome (high jewellery), down Rue Saint-Honore (Hermes, Goyard, Chanel) into Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore. For more curated boutiques and concept stores, head to the Marais (Merci, Officine Generale) and Saint-Germain-des-Pres (Le Bon Marche department store is the city's most refined shopping experience).

Tips Most Guides Miss

  • The Louvre Carrousel entrance off Rue de Rivoli has half the queue of the Pyramid - or book the early opening
  • Sunday morning is the most magical time in Paris - Marais museums, brunches, near-empty streets
  • Eiffel Tower restaurants (Madame Brasserie, Jules Verne) bypass the regular ticket queue entirely
  • Use the Metro - not Uber. Lines 1, 6, 9 cover everything and the traffic is genuinely bad
  • The Seine cruise companies of varying quality - Bateaux Mouches is the classic; private dinner cruises via Klook are the upgrade

Day Trips Worth Doing

Versailles on a Saturday with the Musical Fountains is unmissable. Giverny (Monet's house and gardens) is at its peak in May. Reims for champagne is doable as a day trip via TGV (45 minutes). Mont-Saint-Michel requires an overnight but is one of France's great experiences.
